Cheap Bargain Decorating

Each curtain panel: $3 twin flat sheet from Walmart x 2 sheets = $6
Curtain rod: $5.99 from Big Lots
I already had the clip rings, but you can buy a set of 12 from Wally World or Big Lots for about $7-12.

The basket was bought at Goodwill for $6.99. I used a full can of red spray paint, which cost me $2.49. The basket is supposed to hold the dog's blankets, but it might end up hiding a cat as he waits to pounce on someone to passing by... (This is Ollie, contemplating jumping on the window sill. I placed rocks up there to discourage lounging. And curtain destroying.)

As for the irritating room layout, that's the front door on the left and the stairs take off to the right. As you can see, there are no corners in this end of the living room, so furniture placement stinks. (I'm standing in the doorway to the dining room. No corners on this end, either.) This is the entire width of the LR, too. The couch on the left is pushed against the wall and the dresser & tv cabinet (dark furniture) on the right are pushed tight against the wall. That's it.

And in between the couch and tv is a major traffic pathway to get from the front door to the dining room & kitchen.

Hey, if you have any furniture arranging tips, send them my way, will ya?

The red basket

The red basket, originally uploaded by Adventures of Pam & Frank.

This is the basket I bought from Goodwill. I spray painted it red and it'll hold the dog's blankets so they're not always strewn across the living room floor. (He likes to wrestle with them, then lay on a blanket and chew holes in it. Each blanket looks like swiss cheese.)

This cat is Ollie, wondering how in the heck he's supposed to laze around on the window sill with all the rocks lined up. (That's my home made cat deterrent. I need to go to the coast and pick up a few more rocks to complete the look.)

The shelves

Here's what I did with the shelves.

There is no real storage in the little downstairs half bath, where Rachel does her hair and brushes her teeth before school. There is a cabinet under the sink that is used to store paper products and cleaning supplies (and half cans of paint, since they could freeze in the garage over the winter.) There's also a cheap little cabinet over the toilet but the storage in it is marginal at best.

No, no medicine cabinet over the sink. Just a big honkin' ugly mirror. That thing needs to go, I tell ya. What's the deal with mirrors in this place, anyway? There's a 10 foot long mirror dominating the living room, too.

Yeah, these shelves are visible if you're sitting on the porcelain throne, but you can't see them from the living room when the door is opened, so it works.

I love bargain hunting & fixing up. I think we've got about $10 in shelves here, $.25 in paint, a buck for the plate hanger, a buck for the funky plate (we had that before)...

...and over $100 in hair products!

My Goodwill purchases

Four very ugly shelves and a wicker basket. (One shelf not shown.)
Total spent: $19.00

Guess what I did with them?

(I'll tell ya tomorrow.)
