What's new in town...

What's new? What's new!? News around town is that they're tearing down something very old.

(Very old and very creepy.)

Sections of the Oregon State Hospital (For The Criminally Insane...) are being demolished.

Why is this news? Lemme 'splain.

This is the hospital where the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was filmed.

This is also the very same hospital where about 3,500 copper cans containing the cremated remains of former patients/inmates were discovered a few years ago, having been placed in an unused basement storage room. This was how the hospital handled the remains of their forgotten deceased for several decades. The challenge now is to figure out what remains belong to what family, and try to contact the families to see if they're interested in the remains.

Some remains are so old that returning the remains to any existing family may be impossible because back then people didn't speak of "insane" incarcerated family members. The current generation may not even know these relatives existed. Or they may not care.

What a cheerful, uplifting, healing place this is!

If you're a ghost.

...Naw, even the ghosts are deeply troubled.
